dc.description.abstract | The aim of the study was to gain a deeper understanding of the prevalent circumstances under which violence against women occurs in Gulu district. The study employed a descriptive design and a mixed approach by using questionnaires and interview guides to gather data from respondents. The data was analyzed using SPSS software to identify trends and patterns. The findings of the study revealed that cultural and socioeconomic factors, such as patriarchy, control over resources, and household income levels, are the principal drivers of violence against women in the district. These factors work in conjunction to perpetuate sexual, physical, and emotional violence against women. Despite the efforts of Local and community leaders to mitigate violence against women, they have made little progress due to their limited understanding of women's rights. The study concludes that to reduce violence against women, it is necessary to increase awareness among Local and community leaders and build their capacity to advocate for and implement policies that prevent violence against women. This will enable them to be more effective in addressing the issue and protecting the rights of women in the district | |
