Abstract
This presentation highlights elements that are key in the development process of engaging in oil and gas mining; the impact of the activities on industry in society and the environment. Relevant examples are drawn from the Norway and African experiences. Issues discussed include historical perspectives, success factors, price volatility, managing the sector, jobs and national participation, industry and general thoughts on developing the oil industry.
