    Health facility interventions tuberculosis service delivery: Assessment of the TB program in Hoima Regional Referral Hospital

    This study was about the health facility interventions tuberculosis service delivery, an assessment of the Tuberculosis program. A case study of Hoima Regional Referral Hospital. This study examined how health facility interventions have improved Tuberculosis service delivery efforts among referral hospitals in Uganda, focusing on Hoima Regional Referral Hospital which was taken as a case study. It had three objectives namely; (i) To assess the contribution of infrastructure upgrades to the Tuberculosis service delivery of the Tuberculosis program at Hoima Regional Referral Hospital. (ii) To analyse the contribution of skilled healthcare professionals to the outcomes of the Tuberculosis program at Hoima Regional Referral Hospital. (iii) To examine the effectiveness of Tuberculosis awareness campaigns in improving TB service delivery at Hoima Regional Referral Hospital. The research focused on three key health facility interventions infrastructure upgrades, skilled healthcare professionals and Tuberculosis awareness campaigns and their impact on Tuberculosis service delivery, addressing a critical public health challenge in a region where Tuberculosis remains a significant burden. This study employed a mixed research design using both quantitative and qualitative approaches to obtain comprehensive data on the study variables. A sample size of 155 out of 247 respondents was selected using appropriate sampling techniques to ensure representation of the target population. Data were collected using questionnaires and interview guides, while analysis was conducted using statistical and thematic methods to generate meaningful findings in line with the study objectives. The findings revealed that these interventions collectively explain 51.6% of the variance in Tuberculosis service delivery (R² = 0.516, p < 0.001), highlighting their significant role in improving Tuberculosis care outcomes. The sections that follow provide a detailed conclusion of the findings in relation to the study’s objectives and offer recommendations for hospital administrators, policymakers, and future researchers to enhance Tuberculosis service delivery at referral hospitals. While these three interventions demonstrably influence Tuberculosis service delivery at Hoima Regional Referral Hospital, the researcher acknowledges that other factors, such as patient-centered care approaches, community involvement, service accessibility, program sustainability, and the efficiency of resource allocation, may also significantly impact outcomes. Furthermore, recognizing the likelihood of government and donor funding for Tuberculosis programs at Hoima Regional Referral Hospital and similar facilities, a follow-up study is recommended to specifically investigate the influence of health facility interventions on the success of donor funded Tuberculosis programs across Uganda. This would provide crucial insights into how external funding shapes the effectiveness of Tuberculosis service delivery in comparable healthcare settings.
