WORK ENVIRONMENT AND EMPLOYEE PERFORMANNCE IN SOROTI REIGIONAL REFFERAL HOSPITAL
(Uganda Christian University, 2025-09-29) AYOM VINCENT
The workplace environment plays a fundamental role in shaping employee performance, satisfaction, and organizational outcomes. This study investigates the relationship between workplace conditions and employee productivity, focusing on the physical, psychological, and organizational dimensions of the work setting. Guided by Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory, Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, and Social Exchange Theory, the research highlights how factors such as safety, leadership style, communication, motivation, and workplace culture influence both individual and collective performance. A descriptive research design was employed, drawing data from employees through questionnaires, interviews, and observation. The findings reveal that a supportive and well-structured environment fosters motivation, commitment, and higher productivity, while a toxic or neglected environment leads to dissatisfaction, stress, absenteeism, and poor results. The study concludes that improving workplace conditions is essential for enhancing employee performance and recommends that organizations invest in policies and practices that promote healthy, safe, and inclusive work environments.
